My application to the Scottish Crucible was successful and I joined 30 other researchers at the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Scottish Parliament for two excellent days on the 19th and 20th April. Looking forward to starting even more interdisciplinary projects!
I've been busy in the last few months taking part in the Heriot-Watt Crucible scheme. This was an excellent 6 day programme offering 30 early career researchers the opportunity to develop interdisciplinary collaborations and learn more about interacting with the media and policy makers as well as creativity, leadership and commercialisation. On the final session we had to form small teams and pitch a collaborative research idea to a judging panel. Our "fish and chip shop" team won the prize for the best pitch: see picture and online news article. We've now written up this project into a funding bid to obtain a small amount of money to kick-start this collaboration. I'm also hoping for another collaborative bid with Birgit Gaiser and Pamela Cameron to be funded.
Awarded a grant from the Initiating Knowledge Transfer Fund (IKTF) at the University of Edinburgh for developing research towards commercial goals. Ferdous Khan will therefore continue the work on polymer-protozoa interactions. Following on from our market assessment by IMS Consulting we've had several meetings with potential industry partners which has been very useful for focussing the next studies.
